Hand coming across the body and not along the grass line will cause the bowl to regularly drop short and take a narrow line.
Lack of balance on the mat and feet too close together will cause you to fall sideways off the mat.
Lack of follow through will cause 'short bowls'. Your delivery should come from the shoulder , not from the elbow. Using a straight arm at the point of delivery will promote a good follow through.
Using a straight arm at the point of delivery will reduce strain on your elbow and help promote a smooth 'brushing' delivery of the bowl at first contact with the grass.
Watch your bowl go over the chosen grass line so that you can correct for the next bowl. This could be a spot on the grass 'in line' with a spot on the bank which is acting as an aiming point.
Rising too quickly can throw you off balance and adds 'stress' to the delivery. After the bowl is released stay down for a couple of seconds and watch your bowl travel along the chosen grass line.
Turning around before your bowl has stopped does not allow you to watch your bowl travel until it stops so that you can see the result, and then make a correction on the next bowl.
If you look at the ground on delivery just in front of your foot, how will you know if you have the correct grass line? Find a point 3-5 m out and bowl 'over' it and follow your bowl until it stops.
Feet placement is very important. Your feet positioning and leg movement will dictate the direction the bowl will take at delivery. A minor adjustment on the mat can mean improved results.
Avoid pushing out on the forehand. Concentrate on keeping your step parallel to your chosen grass line and keeping the upper body 'square', this will allow your delivery arm to follow the chosen line.
You should never step backwards after the delivery. This could put you off balance and prone to a fall and you may step onto an object resulting in a serious injury. Always walk forwards, never run
Prepare for your delivery before you step onto the mat. Check the surface, wind, lines taken by the opposition. Select your grass line. Place your feet on the mat along the line. Think about weight.
